Paula Boulton is a Composer and Musician, born and bred in Corby who studied music at the College of Ripon and York St John, Royal College of Music in London and Het Conservatorium in Rotterdam.
With Arts Council England and CBC funding she spent 18 months from May 2014 interviewing people in the town and asking them the magic question "What music reminds you of home?
In response to the music she was given she composed a Suite of seven pieces for various instruments and ensembles. She called it “The Sounds of Home Suite”.
There are pieces for Piano, Recorder Consort, Brass Band and Orchestra which convey the experience of leaving your homeland to live elsewhere. The Music is inclusive and accessible and full of influences from the nations living in Corby in 2015. This unique demographic barometer is testimony to the diversity in Corby.
There is a Lecture Recital available which tells the story of the people and sheds light on her unique compositional process, and a group of 15 musicians who perform the non-orchestral sections.
Paula has been awarded funding to form the Sounds of Home Ensemble to perform the Orchestra pieces later this year at a concert together with the other ensembles and soloists.
There is a Sounds of Home Collective which is the network of people who have been involved in the Sounds of Home project either as one of the 36 interviewees from 30 different ethnic communities in Corby, or as an audience member, workshop participant or Musician in the project so far.
